Interesting post... I had no idea what trials and tribulations T went though, I have always tried to analyze msft with reference to IBM.

There is one thing that I'm not sure about with msft thats a kind of negative wild-card, and that is that developers and industry people hate the company. The public really doesn't like Gates either. I'm not sure if IBM or T had an image like this - I doubt it was this bad, because the horrible conduct of Gates and msft at the trial really sealed it, and that was on TV for all to see, whereas usually boardroom drama is private.

But anyway this dislike for msft as a company is going to hinder their progress in some areas... this voiceweb for example, there are competitors and I don't know what it is going to take for developers to jump back into msft's camp.
