I think the chart comparisons between Dow '28-'29 and NAZ '98-'00 are fair, except for one difference: Mr. Greenspan would never let the market sieze up like that.

Agreed...

The FED has learned a lot since the 1920's... But, there does come a point where tinkering with the natural flow of the markets can backfire... Ex: If the FED didn't stand pat two meetings ago and raised rates for a 7th time, we'd be seeing an even more depressed Retail sector... That, in turn, could have removed the soft landing scenario, and might have had investors focusing on future lower earnings rather than an end to the rate hike cycle...
