DS,

<< Get Quicken. (You said I'd say it!) >>

Yeh. Anyway, I finally got logged in to my Passport account, after transferring data on their secure password server for 20 minutes and then carefully reading the new log-in screen. More carefully then last time. Tricky devils.

<< Can you point me to a place showing how to set up OE for hotmail? >>

I would say use F1 in OE but there doesn't seem to be much there.

If you are near a bookstore you can scan pages 87-89 in Brian Livingston's "More Windows 98 Secrets".

Actually it is worth buying because he devotes 150 pages to Outlook Express. Some excellent material.

The CD has a few cool registry hacks.

Presumably the Knowledge Base has info.

It sounds pretty easy. Approach depends on whether you already have a hotmail account or are going to set one up but either way OE has wizards to walk you through.

If no account access from Tools|New Account Signup|Hot Mail.

If existing account access from Tools|Accounts| Add| Mail.

Brian says that as re synchronization your hotmail folders act more like newsgroups than like mail which probably is cool spam wise.

Brian references a shareware package called Hotmail Express from C-WebMail which allows your messages to flow to your regular OE Inbox.

Above applies to 5.0 or 5.5. Latest can be downloaded from Microsoft Windows updates. Their latest was later than the version that shipped preinstalled from Dell in late July.

Best I can do on short notice.
