inteL suffers mightily from "NIH" and that is a very bad thing.

Let us only hope that they continue on this path.

Re: I don't know about desperation but the Tualatin (new P3) is going on .13u aluminum first then to copper later

Jim,

Right before SemiconEng left SI, we had an exchange on the Intel thread where he stated Intel has no plans to do .13um on Al and never did. No one argued with him, so I assume it's true.

Me: Al: Going to .13um on Al is a pipe dream in my opinion. I don't think it can be done without a severe sacrifice to yields. If Intel is willing to go to .13 Al with bad yields, it should be taken as an obvious sign of desperation. If the yields are good, it contradicts all of the research I've done. The answer to whether or not this is possible should be obvious when the time comes.

Him: intel has stated several times that the 0.13u process will be Copper, not Aluminum, so this statement is irrelevant.

Me: Huh? You're saying Intel is not planing to go to .13um on Al at all?

Him: Nope, Nada, 0.13u Al(Not).
