Frank, I think you understand what is happening well but you're overlooking one key aspect. The MPLS model, which even NT is behind, is a signalled approach where the edge systems "signal" the core optical equipment for the provisioning of wavelengths. By definition the intelligence is at the edge - where CSCO's routers currently exist. Taken a step further the core optical networks will become commoditized/big iron with little intelligence. OG
