Hi Daffodil,

Nice to hear from you again.

I still have this thread book-marked although I don't expect many still do.

Is was just about one year ago when everything was really heating up, and those of us who had made no preparations were warned that it was probably too late, and we would be "doomed".

I was just as passionate with the argument that there would be very few problems, and I really enjoyed debating the issues with people like you, B.K. Myers, Jeff Mizer and others. Some were very rude, and have not been heard from again. I'm just sorry Cheeky and I could not come over to share some of your mangled pickles.

Has anyone heard from C.K. Houston who started this thread? She truly believed she was doing a service to warn of this problem, and did a tremendous amount of research to try to spread the word.

Nice to hear you are making good use of your Y2K supplies. It sounds like for you the Y2K preparations led to a very positive result.

Take care.
Jim

I'm here. Still have the bookmark. Just sentimental, I guess.

It took me about ten minutes to use up my Y2K supplies, but just last week I was cleaning a closet and came upon my "daffodil" lantern. The power has not gone off since I bought it, so it's never been used, but you never know. I should probably take out the batteries.

I no longer have any mango pickle in the house. The unopened jars went to some shelter during one of my periodic cleaning binges. I'll bet they were shocked. Wonder if they knew what to do with it.

Jim mentioned C.K. and her contributions. C.K., if you're out there, during the S.I. system fiasco that revealed some user names, it came to my attention that we might be kin. If you're curious, send me a p.m.

Karen

Not so fast mister,

Would you believe that there are people out there still expecting problems?

I saw this posting recently on the comp.software.year-2000 forum:

<<<
The "two digit date" within embedded chips and old programming will cause a divide-by-zero error when the date flips from "00" to "01".

There were a limited number of problems going into the year 2000 because the previous two-digit year was "99" and a date could still be calculated by the logic within the embedded chips.

The real Y2K will strike on January 1st, 2001 because a "00" being calcualted to form a "01" will cause a divide by zero error inside the internal logic of embedded chips. This would mean that the relatively smooth passing into the year 2000 was too good to be true, just like a scam. All of the cosmetic Y2K remediation, pardon the pun, was for naught.

Y2K is Alive
>>>

And then there is this guy. I'm sure he will be ready

tampatrib.com

As for myself, I was on phone standy for the (non) event. We really didn't expect any problems at the site I worked at. We did the Y2K remediation well ahead of time, and tested twice, so we were pretty sure we would be OK. The only concern was the external factors that may have arisen.

I did find and fix several small Y2K problems both at work and on the home computers, all easily solved.

Hi Daffodil,

Being prepared in the face of uncertainty is always the correct action. So you were correct even though nothing happened. The tensions on this thread in the last quarter of 1999 were due in large part to the personalities of the participants. The most extreme positions held by Ken "Doomers" and Cheeky "Pollyanna's" led to some very interesting posts, but in retrospect Cory Hamasaki may have pulled off one of the biggest spoofs in the history of the internet.:)

Hi all. I can only say how wonderful life is!! I was worrying last year, this time, about how to protect myself (I'm disabled) and my dad if worse came to worse.

Instead, we are falling over happy happy joy joy:

We purchased 500 gallons of diesel fuel (basically non-flammable) and whenever we have a power outage we use our generator (w/manual transfer switch installed properly). We also had hundreds of gallons of unleaded gasoline which was just used up last month!! We missed the rising gas prices (but now we have to pay like everyone else).

My woodstove will come in handy this winter, along with cords of wood abundantly stored in the garage.

We recently had to purchase toilet paper.

We saved a lot of money: I had an outdoor well set up, so now I can water the plants on a timer and save on my water bill. I have a water purifier that came in handy this spring when my dad became ill: he has diabetes, etc, and was "forced" by his doctor to drink LOTS of water -- I use my Big Berkey often.

I sold most of my gold -- at a very nice profit. My silver is still at the same price, however, so I'm waiting until it spikes up a bit before dumping most of it.

All in all, I not only prospered -- I profited. My small investments paid off very nicely in the stock market, and I still use the 80% cash principle. I learned to never buy on margin.

I learned a lot, and now I am reaping the rewards.

Nice to talk to you all again....
Lorraine
