I think it is accurate that it is better to keep all lines of communications open. One thing I see is that the Grand Old Party stays very devoted to keeping that line open to blacks and other constituencies. And, that is in the face of most of them blindly voting a strict democratic ticket. I am pretty certain you could put a yellow dog on the ticket as a democrat and he would get 85-90% of black votes. There is, thank God, a small group, who should be their leaders who evaluate what is happening and choose to vote for opportunity and a level playing field. Most vote to stay economic slaves. I will never understand why blacks look up to the Jacksons, Farakans, Sharptons and don't use people like Colon Powell, J.C. Watts, and many other truly successful and quality people as their role models and leaders. If they would do that and quit looking backward they would find there is sunshine and opportunity out there for everyone.

I cannot name any bills that have done that, an advantage of having a Republican Congress. The main thing is that Clinton has refused to enforce the Beck decision, which means that despite a court ruling, labor leaders continue to be able to abuse dues money by using it for candidates and parties they choose, without regard to the members' will......

I am not "up" on the pension plan issue. Unions have abused such funds too, though.....

Unions support paid parental leave, increase of the minimum wage (which tends to set a new benchmark for all wages), protectionism, government funded daycare, and so on. Of course they gravitate to the party that is more prone to spend on programs they would favor......

The government did play a big role in every contract you bargained for, since it created a situation where a simple majority can determine union affilition, and close a shop. If you work someplace that has a lot of government contracting, the government helps with prevailing standards clauses that look primarily at unionized shops for their standards, and thus helps to set the standard against which subsequent bargaining takes place. There are various other ways too, but I am getting tired........
