Yeah... but none of us get to take all-expense paid domestic and international flights in our own personal 747, nor have the benefit of living in a mansion with our own staff of servants, chefs, and protection detail. And I want a person sitting at 1600 Pennsylvania who won't bald face lie to us rather than just admitting that he made a mistake. The problem with Clinton/Gore is that when they get caught with their hands in the cookie jar, they continue to bald faced lie about how "they didn't know it was a fund-raiser", or "there was no controlling authority", or about what the definition of "is" is, instead of just making some heads roll and "apologizing".. (basically playing CYA). I'm not some kind of polly-anna here who believes that politicians don't go to all possible extents to raise money for their own campaigns and for their political parties. But when they do something as blatant as the Buddhist Temple, where monks who have taken a vow of poverty, are distributing money from Chinese govt origins, someone's head has to roll and an apology is due. Like the old phrase goes... "It's better to ask for forgiveness than to ask for permission". But the problem is that even when caught, they are so morally challenged that they believe all they have to do is just tell another lie ... and that's pretty damn scary that we, as Americans, are willing to tolerate such blatant lack of integrity in our leadership. And the worst part of it is that I actually think that Al Gore may have had a bit of integrity (relatively speaking) before he got hooked up with Bill. But now he's tainted and he will be investigated just like his mentor was. But this time Gore has violated the law and will have to answer for what he facilitated (coerced?) during the '96 election. They have the memos where he apparently implied that he would be in contact with the head of INS in order that 1 million applicants for citizenship would be expedited, and normal background checks waived. This was for the purpose of bringing in more potential Democratic voters just in time for the election. While the illegality of such actions may be subject to interpretation, the fact that some 60,000 of those million new citizens turned out to have felony records, AND THUS INELIGIBLE FOR CITIZENSHIP, shows remarkable incompetence and willingess to subvert the law for personal gain (winning the election). That is a far more serious charge than lying under oath about getting a hummer from Monica. Al Gore in my opinion is "second verse, same as the first".
