Mike,

In Normal mode, P4 destroys T-bird 194.8 to 148.9 for a 30.8% advantage for P4.

If you account for the clock speed ratio (1.4/1.1) the two processors score the same. This is with 2 channel DRDRAM vs. a single SDRAM bus. Probably compiled for SSE.

Mustang with DDR will leave the P4 in the dust.

Mike, Re: we will see P4 win every gaming benchmark when the frame rate is already so high that no one cares

I guess you mean "low" instead of "high"?

I thought of the same thing (see my post to Charles) when wondering what groups the P4 could possible target. Gamers are the obvious choice but they are usually very good informed. And they know that their graphic card is really the limiting factor: At resolutions at 1024x768 and above a faster CPU doesn't help anything. P4 will only achieve killer scores when high memory bandwidth is needed: And that is only at 640x480 (Quake 3, normal) the case. Keep in mind that a frame rate above the frequency of the monitor (normally 75-100 Hz) is only a theoretical number. And 100fps is already easily achieved by a Duron 750 with a descent graphic card in Quake 3 at 640x480 pixels.

Mike, edit to my earlier post: Forget the first question, I reread your sentence and now it makes perfect sense to me. Sorry. (what I wanted to say: The P4 will only shine if the resolution is so low (and the framerate so high) that nobody wants to play in that resolution)
