Carl, just to belabor a bad joke , I meant your criterion for EDRAM use wouldn't fit Rambus memory chips, which seem to have a distinctly non-negligible portion of the chip devoted to something other than memory.

OK, it was a really bad joke, but then, so is Rambus.

This is, in my opinion, the cleanest embodiment of an EDRAM process which includes a leading edge CMOS process with a commodity DRAM process with only modest loss in density (less than 10%) in the DRAM cell. The loss in density is the result of a conscious decision by Crowder not to use a borderless bitline contact approach which could have degraded ACLV (across chip linewidth variation) and thus CMOS performance. I worked with Scott for several years and he is an outstanding technologist.
