<< To short NTAP you need a down market. >>

Or an unsatisfactory product, which ntap has.

<<NTAP market is getting very crowded from all ends. With the latest entries from IBM/Compaq and from Dell, and the drive makers. >>

and Gateway.

<<But AMZN went on to make new all time highs while its market was getting crowded, too, for a while. At least NetApp makes money. >>

ntap has gone up to a $36 billion partly because they are profitable. They have over 330 million shares out. I don't recall what amzn's mkt cap was at its peak, but I don't think it was much above $36 billion.

But i'm like you I do not know what makes a good short ( Jan does). I think I know what makes an overvalued stock, but of course that is not the same thing. Thought i'd raise the issue.
