Clearly, Palm is the proven leader in mobile computing. Isn't iMode an always on system? Oops, RIMM is on its way to get toasted. The other question I have in mind is how does Web Clipping fit in this picture, if it can co-exist with iMode, or use iMode only for network layer? We know that Palm is not making any browser. I hope that Qualcomm will come out with an iMode browser that competes with Access. -----------------here you go----------------------- TOKYO, Sept 3 (Reuters) - NTT DoCoMo , Japan's leading mobile phone carrier and Palm (NasdaqNM:PALM - news) will begin offering a web-connected PDA (personal digital assistant) in Japan from next spring, media reported Sunday. Financial daily Nihon Keizai Shimbun reported that the service, which will allow hand-held Palm PDA users to surf the Internet and check e-mail, will use NTT DoCoMo's packet transmission technology, which cuts the cost of transmitting data over airwaves. That's the same technology DoCoMo employs in its wildly popular ``i-mode'' cell phones, which allow users to browse the Internet on business-card sized screens. I-mode phones have won more than 10 million users after being introduced a year and a half ago. The reported tie-up would fuel Palm's sales in Japan. The PDA-maker is already selling a Japanese language version of its popular digital tool, is going head-to-head with other Japanese makers. The service is set to start next spring, with details to be announced this fall, the paper said, without citing sources.
