TG, very interesting -- thanks for the link! These numbers fit very well with the benchmarks "released" so far: Very high memory bandwidth but poor IPC performance. I think this quote is a good summary of Intels approach width the P4:

"Perhaps this reveals a bit of the corporate mindset that drives Intel. The P4 was not designed necessarily to be the best solution for today's computing problems, but was designed to ramp in clock speed so that the architecture could be used for as long as possible."

AMDs strategy (releasing a more evolutionary new architecture every two years) is IMO much better. They are much more flexible with that approach and can react to future trends sooner.
