It's true that money changes hands in the stock market, where buying dollars equals selling dollars (minus overhead). If that's what you mean by zero sum then that's fine, but it's still not very meaningful since the market is open-ended. And your definition does not imply that there is a loser for every winner as some were saying.

Now, if the market halts trading and ceases to exist then those holding stock will be the big losers. If this were to happen then the game would be over, and I think all the money lost will roughly equal all the money made.

This is the last message I'm going to post regarding zero sum; I'm getting sick of the topic! :-)
