proof of ownership can be one of several things...

the receipt works, though few people have retained that.

oddly, the first page (original, not copy) of any previous norton's user manual is acceptable. i've mailed in several of these myself, but i'm always amazed that they require that customers tear a page out of a manual.

other proof of ownership methods escape me at the moment, but they always spell them out clearly. trouble is, they usually do so on the back of a tiny label taped to the product carton.
