IMO, for a trader, whether or not the markets are zero-sum or not is not even worth thinking about

I agree, I don't know why there is such a debate over this, since it's really irrelevant to traders. Just trade well and money will flow in your direction. Whether that money comes from others losing it is irrelevant on a micro level. Perhaps on a macro level if too many people lose then that could have an impact on overall trading, but so far that hasn't been the case.
