Robotic Vision Systems (ROBV) 14 1/16 - 1/8 The semiconductor stocks have been trading strongly over the past couple of weeks. If you feel you have missed out, consider ROBV which has been running up over the past two weeks (50%) but still offers attractive valuations. But the stock is cheap with a PEG of only 0.30x. While it's not a chip manufacturer, ROBV is capitalizing on the capacity expansion in the industry as it is a producer of vision-based semiconductor inspection and media transfer equipment. While a competitor of ROBV -- CyberOptics (CYBE 51 1/8 + 5 1/2) -- is getting all the attention today saying it expects to report better-than-expected second quarter results, ROBV presents a compelling story. Like CYBE, ROBV is posting some impressive results. In the March quarter, ROBV reported sales of $56.7 million, a sequential 20.5% improvement over the December quarter and a 108% year-over-year improvement. The company posted record bookings in the quarter reflecting an all-time high in demand for ROBV's chip inspection equipment as the semiconductor industry builds capacity....The company sees a strong second half of the year based on strong semiconductor industry growth....Futhermore, EPS for ROBV is expected to double next year from $0.47 to $0.93 translating into an attractive PEG of only 0.30x versus 2.06x for CYBE and 1.29x for another competitor, Cognex Corp. (CGNX 58 1/2 - 1 3/8). Other valuation measurements tell the same story: ROBV is trading at 29x fiscal 2000 EPS and only 15x fiscal 2001 EPS versus 46x and 38x for CYBE and 39x and 30x for CGNX. As for price-to-sales and sequential sales growth for March versus December, the numbers also come out in ROBV's favor: ROBV = 2.7x and 21%; CYBE = 5.7x and 6%; CGNX = 14.0x and 13%. Briefing.com is excited about Robotic Vision Systems at these levels. -- Robert J. Reid, Briefing.com

Summary

Looks and acts like a Semi stock. Good balance sheet. Buyout candidate since industry in need of consolidation. I'd buy my MTSN or AMAT if I wanted back in the sector.
