Tate's comments on JEDEC

Thanks to fneww
======================================================
Chairman Tate basically laid it out in describing JEDEC in the Toshiba settlement conf call. When Rambus joined JEDEC in the early 1990's there were no official dislosure rules, only what Tate descibes as "guidelines" which JEDEC members mostly ignored. Tate says that Rambus lived up to its JEDEC responsibilities which presumably means that they informed JEDEC that they were seeking patents. After the Dell decision JEDEC changed its policy of disclosure to a more formal one requiring dislosure. Rather than remain a member and abide by the new rule, RAmbus chose to resign. Rambus position is simply that during the time that they were a member of JEDEC their conduct was appropriate and consistent with the behavior of other members. Since both their patents and the JEDEC SDRAM standards were approved several years after they resigned from JEDEC, their conduct while a member could not have been misleading or fraudulent. As such, being a member of JEDEC is irrelevant to the validity of their patents.
