I have ADSL and have this problem all of the time, sometimes once a day, seems to depend on how long I leave my computer on. I am running Win 98, and upon advice from my ADSL provider, go thru this sequence, which has worked every time so far: Go to start, Run, type winipcfg, then OK, and a small screen comes up where you can select either PPP adapter or The PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter. Select "The PCI Fast etc, choose the selection on the bottom of "Release ALL". After it does this you settings will go to 000, then you select "Renew ALL". This resets all, hit OK, and you should be good to go.
At least, this is how it works for me.
