Hi, All:
The FAQ is a little late this week due to a short vacation.
And here are no large changes.

This week’s changes:

1. We listed TechReview = techreview.com
2. We expanded guestion “G” to list all the members of the Round Table.
3. Various G/K and Strategy Sites were added:
n. Technology Stock Recommendations Site = tsrec.com

o. NTAP = tsrec.com

As usual, if anyone sees anything to add or correct please drop me a line.

- Fred

Re: QCOM - 2G - 2,5 G - 3G - G3G CDMA Standard - Harmonization - Reference Documents

To QCOM Investors wanting background on 3G and Competitive technologies,

These 2 PDF files, although dated (1999), are excellent background material on Mobile Wireless Telephony.

Some highlights from the OHG document:

* GLOBAL 3G SUBSCRIBER FORECAST (The Ovum Forecast (Oct 1997)

* G3G CDMA STANDARD

• There is one unified CDMA Standard for 3G

– manufacturers can treat them as variations of one product as industry co-operation makes the various FDD modes more similar over time.

– IS 136 operators converge with GSM operators and deploy G3G CDMA for 3G so that manufacturers can address a combined market for 3G

– Because of the convergence between GSM, IS 136, PDC and IS 95 for 3G, the global volumes for 3G are combined and makes it easier to realize scale benefits between modes as a result of harmonization e.g: PA’s are common, channel elements are common etc.

– This probably idealizes the situation but does provide a perspective of
what the maximum benefits could be (converged as opposed to harmonized)

* Global Standard: Increased Subscriber Penetration (Chart)

* Global Standard: Potential For Increased Usage (Chart)

* Benefits Of A Global Standard (Percentages)

- There is significant upside benefit for the industry from a global 3G (G3G) standard for the operators

* Specification Framework: Guiding Principles

- The IPR impact on the industry should be minimum

- There should be free flow of IPRs to allow innovation and customer choice.

- Accommodate regional needs for different spectrum allocations.

* ITU RTT Proposals & Harmonization (Historic)
