Technology Investor Magazine...

...has 3 articles of interest this month. One is a piece on flash memory that highlights SNDK, FLSH and SSTI. The second is a cover piece on PDA's which also mentions SNDK favorably. There is a third piece on Bluetooth.

I found some of the information on PDA's to be very positive. First, the fact that Handspring has taken a significant market share from Palm is felt to be due to both pricing and the options for expansion modules. Even though Handspring's models use the same OS and are B&W, the modular add-on option is a big seller with end-users. This hopefully bodes well for SanDisk shareholders as later in the article it mentions that the next generation of Palm devices will accomodate SDMC (and MMC by default). The Technology Investor contributors were personally very taken with Pocket PC devices for several reasons which I can outline later. The article outlines the fact that while Pocket PC's are capable of more complex computing, Palm sells because of simplicity. Nonetheless, the future of PDA's will probably include more modularity, a trend toward color LCD screens and a trend to more enjoyable multimedia function. By 2003 it is projected that 16 million units will be selling worldwide.

Hopefully most of those 16 million units will take MMC.

I also received my issue of Pocket PC Magazine for November 2000 and the cover is dedicated to the Casio EM500. This particular device has the potential to be a big seller and may give Microsoft a needed lift. I will probably buy one and retire my Cassiopeia E-100 at that time.
