Cisco rarely counters threats by developing products in-house. They only counter threats through acquisition. So far, no privately held company exists which could pose a credible challenge to Juniper. Cisco either concedes the market to Juniper, or buys them. Either one is good for us, the shareholders.

Is this stock expensive? Yes. Was Cisco considered wildly overvalued 10 years ago? Yes. Microsoft 15 years ago? Yes. While I cannot vouch for the stock going higher from here, or even staying at these levels, I hope it does, and I think the risk/reward is worth it.

Nota bene: I have absolutely no insider news about Cisco acquisition activity. This is just idle speculation from what they're commonly known to do.
