Re: IBM went to copper at .25um to be first and to reap the benefit of a lot of easy and free PR. Also, quite a few egos had to be stroked. There was no performance gain at .25um. I think AMD did the right thing to move to copper at .18um in Dresden

I agree.

Me: Anyone that thinks Intel is going to smoothly do .13um copper in the middle of next year like Barrett states is living a pipe dream.

You: Smooth or otherwise, Intel has no choice.


While most of your post seems to disagree with me, I couldn't have stated my opinion better than you just did.

No company with $20++++ billion a year in revenues should ever do anything when they have no other choice.

With 7 mega fabs (or however many it is) Intel should have dedicated one to .25um or .18um copper even before IBM did.

I think they're going to pay for this move. Time will tell.
