1243 [Dow Jones] Taiwan shares end down 2.2% at 7610.78 after overnight fall on Nasdaq and on concerns about financial woes at Ever Fortune Group, dealers say. More market declines likely as investors worry Ever Fortune problems could expose more weakness in overall banking sector. Also tech weakness in U.S. likely to hurt electronics stocks due to close contract manufacturing ties between U.S. and Taiwan companies

Taiwan chipmakers continue to post strong sales in August. DRAM maker Nanya Technology (2408) reported NT$1.86bn monthly sales, up 137% yoy. Mask ROM & flash memory maker Macronix (2337) reported NT$3bn monthly sales, up 106% yoy. While major Taiwan motherboard makers Asustek (2357) and Giga-byte (2376) have confirmed recovering demand for motherboards, we believe DRAM market will regain momentum in September and thus recommend to BUY DRAM makers Nanya Technology, Winbond (2344) and Powerchip (5346) for short-term purpose.
