Gold producer hedging is set to contract.

" The trend change, which is the first in fifteen years, indicates that exploration and the mining of new gold projects could slow down markedly unless the spot price of gold rises substantially. But since there are still huge above ground central bank and private inventories of gold, the contraction in hedging will not be sufficient to boost the gold price, according to the study. Both jewellery and investment demand must grow to achieve this aim."
