I listened to today's presentation by IBM, MSFT and ARBA as part of their UDDI. I don't think it is going to succeed based on what I hear and how they sound.
There are so many legal, political, language, national and
competitive intelligence issues related to this approach.
There are already several vertical and horizontal market places in place all over the world and it is not clear what additional benefit a company will accrue with a registeration with yet another (White, Yellow and Green pages) registry.
It sounds more like catch up with some of the initiative
by CommerceOne, HP (e-speak), and standards bodies like
Rosetta Net, OASIS, OAG etc.
The whole staged show is for IBM to sell their servers
and databses, MSFT to enter B2B market and ARBA to sell some of their plateforms. I am not sure busienss all over the world wants to jump into this stuff. They may catch some
small fishes but not the bigger ones and their partners IMHO.
I wish ARBA will concentrate more on their strength and
less on these useless PR stunts.
