COMPETITIVE THREATS

During the past few months, StorageNetworks has begun to face competition from a number of SSP startups, such as Centripetal and WorldStor, as well as more mainstream players. Compaq has rolled out a new managed storage service, called Private Storage Utility, while Storage Technology Corp. (StorageTek) has spun off its storage utility business, ManagedStorage International Inc., with the help of a Boston-based investment firm, Great Hill Partners LLC.
