Isn't that what happened in Q1? Take out investment gains in Q1 and they blew the quarter.


In the first quarter they would have missed by less than 2 cents had they not had increased investment gains, not really a significant change. And their guidance hadn't been as aggressive as it has been for the 3rd quarter.

And yes, it is overall results that triggers a change in guidance. It one element of their guidance is less than they expect and another is better, for a wash, they will not change guidance, or at least they haven't in the past. So they could sell more Micron, or any of the 400 (?) other equities that they own.
