Stockhawk:

New to this thread, but I'm pretty excited. I've been gorilla hunting on my own, almost exclusively in the Gilder jungle. I'd not paid attention to Gemstar at all (except to see that VCR Plus was on my new VCRs) till seeing it on the G&K list and reading your excellent article. This one definitely deserves my attention.

You guys have built a great thread here. Now it will take me a few weeks to work through old postings.

Thanks again.

This year's top U.S. equity income fund has GMST as its top holding and expects GMST to reach $120 by year-end.

"Conseco Equity Fund's Pence Likes Gemstar"

excerpt:

"Pence, whose fund ranks as this year's top open-end U.S. equity income fund according to Bloomberg, expects digital and satellite television to take an increasingly larger share of U.S. TV viewership. As it increases, so will the number of channels and the demand for Gemstar's interactive programming guides. 'There isn't a (cable) box out there that's operating that either doesn't pay a royalty to Gemstar or is in the process of being sued for patent infringement by Gemstar,' said Pence, 39, who has managed the 3-year-old fund since inception. 'The lawyers at AOL and Microsoft both tried to get around those patents, and after a long period of time of trying to do that, they gave up'."
