While its difficult, its not totally impossible. All of the router product is from 'classical cisco'. And while Juniper does well in the core router market it doesn't compete in the mid-range and access segments (enterprise router space).

What Juniper has done (that I like) is killed pretty much all other existing competitors of Cisco. It also questions the need for a 3rd vendor.

Most new vendors in this field have failed because they lack adequate routing code (remember the GRF?). Claims by newer vendors always get them trials, but don't necessarily get them sales!

Having stated this, take a look at Procket Networks procket.com

This is Tony Li's new company, so its always possible that he might get BGP and the other layer 3 protocols right :-)
