RE:"1 GHz Timna will be an incredible product now!! It will be the fastest chip by Intel.

In the article Perlmutter say "In one year we will see in the market thin laptops under $1000 probably at about $800. The CPU will be the Timna processor that will run at faster than 1 GHz"

I think that > 1GHz laptops at $800 will be a great product even a year from now."

Where are you getting this 1000 Mhz Timna stuff? Intels roadmap only gives Timna 650-700 Mhz on release in Q2 2001.

Intel can't even yield 1 GHz Coppermines that well. I seriously doubt they can yield any significant amount of 1000 Mhz Timnas anytime soon. OK, 1 year from now? Some where, out there?

As far as cheap notebooks...better take a look at the cost of the screens...by far the most expense component.

Jim

Eylon,

I have always thought timna might be a killer laptop appliance etc cpu.

Intel can sell a ton of em at $50-60 and have 50% plus margin.

As a desktop its always gonna be a dog compared to duron family.

It all depends upon marketing i guess.

regards,

Kash
