Why does NT want to spin off the optical components unit? I thought their optical business was a tremendous plus for the company.

Mephisto - John Roth does not want NT to be in the optical parts business and is also worried that NT is getting too big to be run effectively. The intention is to spin off the optical components business and to retain the optical systems business.

The optical components business is growing very rapidly and that is not fully reflected in the share value. The spin off will be an effort to more fully realize that value. John Roth has publicly announced his intentions to spin off the components business but there has been no official announcement of the details or date. - peggylynn
