A new algorithm that speeds up file transfers has been announced, under the name HyperDriveModem. Supposedly, data transfer rates can increase considerably: up to 5.6 megabits per second. And it's selling on eBay for $10,000. Inventor of this new algorithm, Jeff Fries, is selling a license to use his technology for three months on the popular auction site. As of right now, he's received 0 bids. The auction is located at: cgi.ebay.com The implications of a technology such as this include the death of cable and DSL communication, since a dial-up connection is all you will need to access the Internet at a blazing fast 56 megabits per second (56 megabits translates to about 5.6 megabytes per second). Also, Jeff claims the new technology will create higher computer bus speeds and disk densities. Question is, we're wondering why anyone with a breakthrough technology like this is selling their product through eBay. Maybe he wants to see how high the bids go, or maybe he wants to give everyone a chance at obtaining his modem. But a revolutionary technology that sells only for $10,000? Not many details have been released on the modem, nor have any other sources verified the speed increase the HyperDriveModem offers. But you never know.
