There's no need to be mean-spirited....after all we're all Americans...

There is too much at stake in Presidential elections. I mean literally there is too much at stake. It's come to the point that the election will decide fundamentally how this country will be governed.

It wasn't supposed to be this way. The founders provided mechanisms by which the institutions of government were to be modified including the Constitutional Amendment or (the extreme case) a Constitutional convention. It wasn't supposed to be the ballot box. A Presidential election was to pick a person qualified to administer the institution of the Executive branch, which was subject to many restraints and checks. This is because the founders trusted institutions and process more than they trusted people. They were wise. We've become foolish. We've allowed way too much power to be concentrated in one place. As a result elections have turned into to cut throat blood fests.

I'm not so much attracted to Bush, as I am appalled by the consequences of the folly of the course Gore has laid out. Al Gore's acceptance speech was nothing but a declaration of independence from the last restraints on the power of the Federal Government. This will ultimately lead to tragedy and poverty for millions of people. I believe this as sincerely as I believe anything. Whether you believe it or not, I am concerned for the greater good.

This isn't a partisan rant. There are plenty of Republicans on this bandwagon to hell. And it isn't a touchy feely plea for civility. We don't need niceness. We need a new attempt to live up to the founding principles of this country. Notice I didn't say return to our founding principles. The reality is we've never been able to live up to our ideals. That's no reason to quit trying.
