Cirrus is kind of an unknown "name" in the semi market, but does have strong support in the products that they sell. I am not all that familiar with them. Lots of integrated, multifunction parts that work nicely in the target applications. They are not a light weight competitor.

While it is attractive to want to offer customers "one stop shopping" for audio/video products, kicking off a new product and getting actual design wins is another story. Price is important - they need lots of design wins to make the production costs come down far enough to "take almost all of the sockets", IMHO.

"With its programmable audio DSP, Cirrus hopes to take the wind from the sails of Analog Devices' Melody chip set, which is based on the company's 32-bit floating-point Sharc DSP. ADI counts Denon, Madrigal, Sony Electronics and TAG McLaren Audio as customers for the chip set. "

Nice list of ADI customers.
