Courtney Love: Literary Chanteuse?
Not only is she smeared all over our movie screens
these days, but now she's on our pages as well. God
Bless Courtney Love. According to a posting on
Hole's official website, www.holemusic.com, the
Love has been drafted to pen a book. "Largely due to
the unprecedented success of her speech at this year's
Digital Hollywood, Courtney Love has been
commissioned by a division of HarperCollins to write
an empirical work that will offer direct insight into
her experience with the music business thus far,
giving readers an unobstructed view into both the
seedy deals and the ones that have unequivocally prospered," the
posting reads. "Love hopes it will fundamentally serve as a kind of
'guidebook' for artists and those wanting a detailed and unrestricted
account of the music industry, in all of its glory and shame."
Personally, examining the music industry in a "detailed and
unrestricted" manner sounds absolutely horrifying, but maybe that's
just me. In other Love/Hole news, the band is all set to hit the studio
again this October for their as-yet-untitled fourth LP, to be the
follow-up to 1998's Celebrity Skin. The site reports that Love has
been penning new songs lately, and one was even written with the help
of Oasis' brother Liam during a recent jaunt to London. Hole is also
looking for a new bass player, and Corey Parks of Nashville Pussy has
been named as a possible candidate. And finally, the band has settled
on a management company, Left Bank Management, which is known
for being particularly artist-friendly and adept at artist catalogue
take-backs.

Tipper Tips Her Hat to Drummer
Jeannine Yeomans
Friday, September 1, 2000
sfgate.com

There's a reason Tipper Gore and former Grateful Dead drummer Mickey Hart are big buddies. Tipper loves to play the drums, so she invited
Hart to sit in the Gores' skybox at the Demo convention and give a drum intro before her speech. This could put the ex-hippie a Hart beat
away from the presidency. Hart has come a long way since he was a little boy who started playing an old drum set in the closet, left behind
when his father split from home.

After playing for 25 years with the Dead, Hart, who lives in Sebastopol, has written two books and released three CDs exploring the cultural
history of drumming.

And now for the first time, part of his vast drum collection -- before now hidden in a warehouse in Marin -- is on display at San Francisco
Airport in the United terminal. The 300 exotic instruments are just a fraction of the thousands Hart has collected while touring the world
with the Dead. Highly recommended, even if your plane isn't late. (Details at www.MHart.com.)

``Life is good when the rhythm is right,'' Hart told a reporter while cruising down Highway 101 and talking on his cell phone. ``When you've
got good rhythm, you can't ask for more in life.''

-- -- --

HART TO HART: Mickey's wife, Caryl Hart, an attorney and conservationist, just got named to the State Parks Commission by the governor.
No telling what could happen to the Harts if Mr. Tipper goes to Washington.

Lucky is moving with my sister to San Francisco.
Outside of college it'll be the 1st time I'm catless
since before I got a kitten, Snoopy, for my 7th birthday.
I'm undecided on whether I want another cat now. Iko
would give a kitten a real hard time and I think she
deserves full attention in her golden years.
