Engram hurt the knee after catching a 9-yard pass in the second quarter, one of four receptions he made in the 14-7 loss. "Bobby caught the ball and went to turn up field for the goal line and planted with his right foot. His body turned and his foot stayed planted. It was a non-contact injury," trainer Tim Bream said Monday. The Bears are off to a 0-3 start and now have the bad news on Engram, who had caught a pass in 36 straight games. The injury was revealed by an MRI. "That's a big blow to our team. I feel bad for Bobby. He loves the game, and that shows on the field. And he makes plays for us all the time. We'll miss him," Bears coach Dick Jauron said. "It's just disappointing. I feel bad for us as a team but worse for Bobby." Jauron said Eddie Kennison, who caught a TD pass Sunday for the Bears' only points in the last two games, will move into Engram's starting spot. Engram, who also tore cartilage in the knee, will likely undergo surgery in a couple of weeks, Bream said. Bream said center Olin Kreutz, who sprained his left knee against the Giants, is probably out for this Sunday's game against Detroit and perhaps the following week at Green Bay. Casey Wiegmann will fill in. Defensive end Phillip Daniels had a quadriceps contusion and defensive back Frankie Smith strained his left hamstring. Both are questionable for Sunday. Defensive tackle Jim Flanigan strained his right calf but will be able to go Sunday.
