Re: margins, that's the best one...kinda like the airline industry--if AMZN tries to raise their margins, how long do you think it will take people to switch to Barnes&Noble.com or Borders.com? Like the airlines, any price increase will fail to hold, as all of them are trying to protect market share.

That's the double-edged sword of the Internet...there's no such thing as "brand-loyalty"...customers will switch vendors at the drop of a hat to save 50 cents. Unlike traditional retail where a retailer with excellent locations could get away with charging higher prices for the convenience.

Not to mention the fact that higher oil prices will translate into higher shipping charges...sooner or later J6P decides it's just as cheap to run out to Borders or B&N to buy his books.
