I am using Sprint PC. As long as I stay with their service I keep the same number. You sign up for the service like any other phone service. The customer service person can recommend a variety of plans as well as phones. One nice option is that you are not required to agree to a one year contract. You can quit and go to another service any time you want. One of my partners is quitting to go with AT&T's plan.

. Any information on phone manufacturer, etc. also appreciated.....

After trying several, the only one that will work for me when I'm at the lakehouse (booooondocks) is the new Motorola StarTac. Plus it's small and the battery has no memory and seems to last days on a good charge. With the others I could never tell when the charge was complete, with this one, it has a little icon upper right corner of the screen that shows battery charge status.
