Don't really know but one factor may be that Phelps Dodge has been added to the XAU for some strange or nefarious reason. They are copper producers who derive about 1% of their revenue from gold and copper has been strong of late. I am not sure of their weighting within the index but it is substantial. Cheers Ogi

That's a good question. In the past, the XAU has been known to sometimes lead the way for gold to the upside, but this is kind of strange because gold itself went to a "no position" signal last night from a previous buy signal on my system, so it is all a bit confusing here. We also have to keep in mind that the gold stocks have been beaten down for so long, that some players may be stepping up to the plate here regardless of which direction the gold price itself is actually heading.....
