Leigh: Dell has a lot of processes in place.
IBM was always slow in getting their internal software running efficiently.
They don't have to catchup 100% with Dell.
The advantages Dell has in time will start shrinking.
Dell needs to add more R&d and more sales force, and keep on constructing the DEALS.
When I was helping IBM with their order matching system (customer order to factory schedule), the will keep on changing directions. If IBM ever learn to manage competing managers special interest plays, they will be a formidable opponent.
I would like to see that Dell base its plans on having to keep on beating IBM, SUNW etc in infrastructure(both technology and management).
I think the kid is capable of doing it. I just want to see the results. We should know in the next 12 months.
