rrman - both those companies sold more gold forward than they could deliver - incompetence pure and simple - of course there are those that blame the banks, blame the sun and the moon, and blame an evil conspiracy of 'international financiers' - the plain fact of the matter is that some companies do it right and others don't. Hedging has been a regulating and smoothing process. And, Ken, in case you get any ideas please don't reply to me - I've said my weary 'goodbye' to you already. Play with the other boys and girls from now on - d'ya hear me good?

Cambior and Ashanti speculated in the futures markets, they weren't hedging via forwards. Get your facts straight.
