Ibexx:

I have some slightly more positive data from IDEX Mutual Funds based on the S&P 500 Index:

(1) In the last 14 election years (4th year of presidential term) since 1944, the 13 through 1996 have all been up years, with zero down years.

(2) The average return for the 13 election years through 1996 was +14.4%.

(3) For the last 3 election years the returns have been +16.8% (1988), +7.7% (1992), and +23.0% (1996).

(4) In the first year of the new presidential term following the last three elections, the returns have been 31.5% (1989), 10.0% (1993), and 33.4% (1997).

Another up year this year, and next year also? Who knows, but if we get just the average 14.4% for this year, virtually all of it is going to occur between here and year end. I'll take that.
