There are about 15 different reformulations for different areas of the country and is one of the reasons gas has jumped 50 cents a gallon or more. One of the new reformulations has MTBE in it. MTBE only helps cut pollution for the first two minutes a car is running and doesn't break down. It does get in the water supply and causes cancer in low doses. Several wells in California have been closed because of it. MTBE is federally mandated to be used in several areas.
