rudedog, it should be noted that there will be 200million GPRS users by the year 2003/4, not including 3g users coming on line.

there are currently over 320 million GSM/TDMA users now. These current users are switching to GPRS as the operators upgrade their networks. by the middle of next year 40% of these operators will have upgraded, by 2003/4 nearly 65% GPRS, the remainder being data enabled TDMA and PDC. these are industry numbers, not my own.

sorry for the multiple postings.

*GPRS is becoming a synonym for 3g because the step-up from GPRS to 3g is relatively small; handset, chip, value, spectrum and other upgrades for 3g.

rudedog, re wireless/internet integration through software and systems application -

company to watch in this space

microstrategy.com

symbol: mstr

IBM considers mstr software and applications a win win. I'm surprised Dell hasn't established a longer term relationship. mstr got "excited" about their financials, but fundamentals haven't changed. UUNET/WCOM's Sidgmore is obviously positive...

Strategy.com Names John Sidgmore Chairman

VIENNA, Va., September 4, 2000 – Strategy.com™, the Personal Intelligence Network™, today named John Sidgmore to the newly created position of Chairman of the Board. Strategy.com is a wholly-owned subsidiary of MicroStrategy® Incorporated (NASDAQ: MSTR). Mr. Sidgmore, who will remain in his current position as vice chairman of WorldCom (NASDAQ: WCOM), will begin working with the Strategy.com team immediately. If Sidgmore can't move this space, very few can. Dell...where are you?

As Chairman, Mr. Sidgmore will provide direction to Strategy.com’s management team, lead an effort to bring additional talent to the Board of Directors, help secure long-term financing, and assist the business development team in identifying strategic partners.

“Becoming Chairman of Strategy.com provides another exciting challenge for me, as I believe it has the potential to become a leading wireless programming network,” said Sidgmore. “I plan to leverage my UUNET experience to help Strategy.com exploit the market emerging from the convergence of the Internet and wireless technologies.”

“We are delighted to have one of the most successful Internet pioneers join Strategy.com as Chairman of the Board,” said Nicholas Weir, president and COO of Strategy.com. “We believe that John can help Strategy.com achieve its mission of becoming the next-generation wireless programming network for mobile commerce that can benefit thousands of companies and millions of people around the world. John’s appointment significantly strengthens our management team.”

“The experience and leadership John has added to MicroStrategy since joining the Board in February has been invaluable,” said Michael J Saylor, founder and acting CEO of Strategy.com. “His business insight and track record should provide Strategy.com with strong leadership as we build Strategy.com into an independent entity. This is a tremendous vote of confidence for the entire Strategy.com team.”

Mr. Sidgmore has a demonstrated history of success in managing and running Internet technology companies. In 1994, he joined UUNET Technologies as president and Chief Executive Officer. Since that time, UUNET, which is now a WorldCom Company, has become the world's largest Internet Access provider with more than 70,000 business customers and 7,000 employees worldwide. Under Mr. Sidgmore's leadership, UUNET grew from $6 million in revenue in 1994 to over $4 billion today. Mr. Sidgmore was instrumental in UUNET's $2 billion merger with MFS Communications Company, and became president of the combined companies in August of 1996. With the subsequent $14 billion merger between MFS and WorldCom, Inc., he became vice chairman and chief operating officer of WorldCom.

Mr. Sidgmore formerly served as president and CEO of CSC Intelicom (formerly Intelicom Solutions) beginning in 1989. Mr. Sidgmore sold Intelicom Solutions Corporation to Computer Sciences Corporation in 1991 and remained as CEO of CSC Intelicom until June 1994. For fourteen years prior to his association with CSC Intelicom, Mr. Sidgmore served as Vice President and General Manager of GEIS North America, a division of General Electric Information Services (GEISCO). Mr. Sidgmore received his B.A. in Economics from the State University of New York in 1973
