TI's Expands Capabilities to Deliver DSP-based Wireless Solutions for All 3G Standards Texas Instruments Incorporated has completed its previously announced acquisition of Dot Wireless, Inc., in a stock-for-stock transaction that will expand TI's expertise in DSP-based solutions for third-generation (3G) wireless handsets and mobile computing devices. This acquisition enables TI to expand its offering of leading programmable digital signal processors (DSPs) and analog-enabled wireless solutions across all 2.5G and 3G wireless standards and markets, including IS-2000. Dot Wireless has an advanced 3G-system architecture and protocol software for both voice and high-speed data applications. Dot Wireless also is a leader in 3G CDMA technology, both IS-2000 and Wideband-CDMA (W-CDMA), and will support TI's development of technologies for both standards. W-CDMA is designed to support the evolution from today's GSM, TDMA and PDC systems -- standards widely used in Europe, Asia, the United States and Japan. IS-2000 is designed to support the evolution from today's IS-95 systems. TI is the leading semiconductor supplier to the wireless industry and is working with leading handset makers, including Nokia, Ericsson and Sony, on their next-generation designs. As part of this acquisition, TI is establishing a wireless technology center in San Diego where Dot Wireless is based. The company expects to expand its presence in the San Diego area to support its wireless development. The San Diego location will be the sixth wireless technology center for TI, joining other centers in Dallas, Texas; Nice, France; Tsukuba, Japan;Aalborg, Denmark; and Kfar Saba, Israel.
