Pootr Koziol,
That's the type of news we needed to kill Ashole Kumar's doom and gloom. One more piece of news like this and CPQ could have a major break out above $35 resistance.

Piotr ... About IDC Prediction for Q3 PC Demand

Good to see you back, you haven't posted for a while.

>>>IDC said unit volume for the worldwide PC market should climb to 33.4 million in the third quarter, a 18.5 percent jump from the year-ago period.<<<

Kumar predicted 6% sequential growth from Q2. Q2 unit shipments were 30.1M, Kumar number for Q3 is 31.9M vs IDC number of 33.4M. I would think that IDC number is closer to the real number than that of Kumer's.

Another interesting point

>>>Companies that may benefit from back-to-school and holiday sales include Apple Computer (AAPL: news, msgs), IBM (IBM: news, msgs), Hewlett-Packard (HWP: news, msgs), Compaq (CPQ: news, msgs) and Dell (DELL: news, msgs).<<<

This is the first time in a long time that IDC mentioned CPQ as one of the companies to benefit from growth in the PC market.

To Piotr;

While IDC is stating that pc demand is expected to be up, there have been no fewer than three (3) analysts who have stated that pc demand is dropping. Ashok Kumar is one who used "decreasing pc demand" as one reason to downgrade intc. So who do we believe Piotr? For me, I believe IDC who, unlike the analysts, has no particular agenda.

By way of example, I think we should all pay homage and bow to the venerable Gardner at SSB who downgraded cpq in july and reduced his price target from 40 to 25 due to "channel stuffing".
