RDRT's prototype was done at equipment vendor's site. They got help from the vendor. However, it is just a prototype any one can do it. Even the protype, it is not working well yet. To be qualified by telecom companies, there is a long way to go.

100 M rev. next year is impossible. It is a joke when anyone believe that RDRT can do 100 M DWDM filter next year. 100 M rev was just a business plan. These guys know nothing for fiberoptics industry. To be qualified by big telecom companies, they have to pass BellCore test which takes at least 6 months. How can they do 100 M rev without passing BELL CORE test. DWDM is not disk drives. It requires very high reliability. A disk drive failure causes nothing in a disk array. However, a DWDM device failure could shot down a communication link completely. It is a joke that READRITE can do 100 M DWDM in 2001.

ReadRite had several failure startup before:
1. optical storage
2. perpendicular recording.

So far there is no sucessful initiave in the past yet.

There are more than 100 fiberoptic start up in Silicon Valley. Many of them are DWDM filter startup. Price for low end DWDM filters such as 200 Ghz and 100 Ghz are falling every day.
