I talked to Trikinetic (they sell computer systems optimized for trading) and they claimed windows 2000 is too new and buggy. They suggest using NT4.0.

It has an option to upgrade your previous OS and
keep your applications intact. That sounded a little
too good to be true so I did a reformat and fresh
install of the OS and all apps. Yes, Metastock,
RealTick, and the majority of my apps are running
perfectly. I'm having some weird Oracle SQL*Net and
ODBC clashes but no negative impact to the trading platform.

Dual processors, multiple monitors, and all periphs are rock solid.

Believe it or not, MS did a great job on W2K.
