August 2000: Bush, declaring himself "eager" to debate Al Gore and "talk about what I believe for the country," proposes that there be three presidential debates. "Three is plenty," Bush says. The bipartisan Commission on Presidential Debates, which had scheduled for only two debates, secures a third site.

September 2000: Bush flip-flops. ``I think we ought to have one presidential debate" Bush says.

----

Editorialists of every political stripe have called on Bush to end his shenanigans, as I posted yesterday.

Currently Junior George is spending campaign cash running ads that ask ``If we can't trust Al Gore on debates, why should we trust him on anything?'' As the editorials made plain, Gore isn't dodging anything.

These facts give the lie to your suggestion that mountains are being made out of molehills. It seems clear that we can't trust Bush on debates. So why should we trust him on anything?
